LAPEL, IN - The Town of Lapel will at some point be asked to pay out $56,000 as its portion towards drainage work South East of the Town of Lapel.
This project has been talked about for at least the last year and is likely to get started early 2017.
Work on improving the drainage ditch will involve removing debris, silt and blockages and replacing culverts and other drains that are no longer working correctly.
Comments at the Lapel Town Meeting last night from various Town Council members implied that the total cost of the project is estimated at millions of dollars.
Although the amount is not currently due the Town Council will hope to work out a deal with Madison County and the State to pay this money in payments over time.
