New Baseball Park Makes Progress

LAPEL, IN - It has been a while since we have posted any updates on the status of the new Baseball Park. The Park Department led by Bill Hutton are working diligently to complete this new park before the end of the year!

Those of you that drive past the park or have been checking in on it will notice the grading work started in 2015 is largely completed. There is one spot where they hope to haul in some more dirt to complete a connecting sidewalk later in the year.

S & H Trucking out of Anderson provided around 12 trucks recently to haul in 2700 tons of stone to fill in areas such as the parking lot and driveway which will later be paved with asphalt.

The retention pond on the NE side of the property has done an excellent job at holding water to prevent flooding on neighboring properties but the Park department is looking at running a drain from the pond so the water level goes down faster in future.

Next the Park Department is hoping to lay grass seed on approximately 7 acres and cover that with straw to hold moisture in and allow the seed to grow.

Work on laying utilities to the property and constructing the concession stand, dugouts and fences will begin in due course.

Work on the new park is being paid for using $250,000 of grant money obtained from DNR and from generous donations of time, money and resources from members of the public and businesses.

If you wish to help contribute to the new park, please contact the Lapel Parks Department @ parks@lapelindiana.org
