Road Closings Expected in June as Transformer Project is Rescheduled

LAPEL, IN - Plans to unload a massive transformer from a train to a 96 wheel truck in Lapel have moved up from September to June.

In March the Town Council approved a request to close parts of 9th St and other Town roads to allow a crane and 96-wheel trailer access to the rail road.

Now it has been revealed that this process has been moved up from September to some time in June.

UPDATE: Town Hall just confirmed the move is taking place on Monday 6th June starting from 8am.

A hydraulic 96-wheel trailer will be loaded with the transformer in Lapel and will haul it along 9th St, up SR13, down SR32 to a final resting place at an electrical substation on SR38.

Believe it or not Lapel was chosen due to its proximity to its final destination.

This project is expected to take anywhere from 6 to 12 hours and no firm date in June has yet been chosen.
