LAPEL, IN - Last Saturday when the weather was perfect, dreams were coming true as the Lapel Bulldogs were being crowned State Basketball Champions at the original time the Egg Drop would have taken place.
The River Church made the difficult decision to reschedule the FREE yearly event for the following weekend. Not everyone appreciated that move as some were on Spring break this week. It was an unfortunate series of events with the event organizers forced to make difficult decisions at every turn.
Re-scheduled for Saturday 2nd a new obstacle was apparent in the form of mother nature, with 40 - 50 mph gusts.
The Helicopter which usually drops some of the 15,000 - 30,000 eggs used at the event could not fly in such weather and had to be grounded. The inflatable bounce houses could also not be erected in winds greater than 20mph so had to be scrapped.
Even so the event went ahead, the organizers knew attendance would be lower than expected but still tried to put on an awesome event as they have done for three years prior.
In the end approximately 400 children took part in the fun and games provided and rushed onto the Lapel High School football field to collect the thousands of eggs that had been laid out.
Mother nature however reared her ugly head again in form of a pop-up snow shower. If there is one thing you can depend on in Indiana it is unpredictable weather and we certainly got that on Saturday.
The weather was frightful, the people, the setting and the huge amounts of candy were quite delightful.
One thing is sure theRiver will be hosting this event again next year and hopefully the weather will be a little more excited for Easter and #whiplashluv!
