LAPEL, IN - In January 2016 a malfunction in the sprinkler system designed to protect Daybreak Church in the event of a fire caused thousands of gallons of water to soak the interior of the Church.

The sprinkler system could not be turned off for approximately 30 minutes which led to sustained water damage throughout the building.

Estimates put the damage which gutted both the first and second floors at around $300,000 and it is expected to take five or more months to repair.

Since that incident the Community Church has been able to use the Lapel Junior High School as a temporary base of operations and recently held its FRAN event at that location.

Despite having to use the cafeteria at Lapel Junior High school for services and events Daybreak's "FRAN's" day on Sunday March 20th was a success. Members, friends, family and neighbors packed the cafeteria for services and food. The sermon given by Pastor Richard Cole was on the "Qualities of a friend". - Nina Grace
