LAPEL, IN - In a 3 to 1 vote the Lapel Town Council voted to approve Captain Michael Barnes as the new permanent Police Chief and promote Ryan Daniels to Captain.
The timeline laid out by the Town Council in prior meetings was to have chosen a new Police Chief by April. It would seem after the Council interviewed the four candidates for the position approximately a week ago they decided the best man for the job was Barnes and formalized things last night.
The Town Council also voted to scrap the part time Police positions and begin the process to hire new full time officers to replace the part time positions.
While some may think this will cost the Town a lot of money a prior discussion on this topic implied it would not because you would be reducing the amount of overtime the existing full time officers receive by hiring more full time officers.
