MADISON COUNTY, IN - An estimated $72,000 in scholarship assistance will be available through the South Madison Community Foundation for the 2016-2017 school year.
Scholarships are available to a broad range of eligible candidates. “Don’t think for a minute that you must be a top athlete, valedictorian, or in a certain income bracket to qualify for local scholarships; the Foundation awards an array of scholarships for students of all types,” according to Lisa Floyd, Executive Director, “you should definitely apply.”
To date, the South Madison Community Foundation has awarded over $1 million in scholarship assistance, but as with any competitive awards, you must complete and submit your application to be eligible for consideration. The scholarship deadline is midnight, February 15. All applications are to be submitted online through the Foundation’s online scholarship portal, found at www.southmadisonfoundation.org. The portal includes full criteria for each scholarship.
Several scholarships require letters of recommendation, transcripts or a financial calculation to be successfully submitted. Allow time for your references to complete their submission, your counselor to send your transcript and for family members to gather pertinent family financial data.
Another opportunity for students and their families to discover sources for financial aid is coming up in February. FAFSA Days at Lapel High School will be held on February 9 and Pendleton High School on February 10. Counselors from the National Center for College Costs will be present on these days to walk students and their families through the process of filling out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). While not required for scholarships from the Foundation, the FAFSA must be completed before March 10 to ensure eligibility for Federal and State level grants and Federally subsidized student or Parent-Plus loans.
