LAPEL, IN - Starting this January, there are free Adult Education classes offered at Lapel High School on Monday and Thursday evenings.
Local adults, who did not finish high school, can study to finish their high school education. The classes are also for those who need a refresher to pass college and job placement tests. The classes are available through grants from the Department of Workforce Development and overseen by the Hinds Career Center Adult Education program. People who successfully complete these classes can also work with staff from the local WorkOne to get free certification classes for in-demand jobs, like C.N.A., A.W.S. Welding, Medical Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomy, C.D. L. and many others.
Statistics show that people who finish high school have a much higher employment rate than those who did not finish. According to the Department of Labor, on average, people who complete high school earn $9,000 more per year. Certifications after passing the classes can add thousands to family incomes. Many students also study so that they can help their kids with homework so that they can be successful in school too!
