LAPEL, IN - At the busy Sunday service on February 23rd The River Church presented a check for $10,000 to members of the Lapel Fire Department and Fire Board.
The donation comes from members of The Rivers congregation and is to be used towards the new Fire House project.
A large turnout of active Lapel Volunteer Firefighters attended the service to show their thanks for the generous donation.
Todd Sears who accepted the check on behalf of the Fire Department commented that the check equates to about 10 fish fry's, an event which the Lapel Fire Department has hosted annually for many years.
As well as thanking The River for the donation Sears also thanked the Fire Board and the members present (Deena Watkins, Deb Wainscott and Tony Pearson) for doing a "phenomenal job getting this (Fire House) done".

We understand that the Department of Local Government Finance has in the last few days approved the purchase of the land for the Fire House. Based on a timetable for construction created by KrM this means construction could begin as early as July.
