All year long the Lapel Elementary School 5th Grade School Council has been holding fundraising events to raise money for the Lapel Stony Creek Township Fire Territory.

Last night at the Fire Board Meeting at the Masonic Lodge on 9th / Main St a check for $1506.00 was presented by Student Council members Josie Moore, Jesse Bradley, and Gage White to the Fire Department.

Pictured are Josie Moore, Jesse Bradley, Gage White and Fire Board members Deena Watkins, Paul Lawther and Jim Bauer (Treasurer).

The money is to go towards construction of the new Fire House on the north side of Lapel, where the girls' softball diamonds are currently.

The Student Council supports one community project each year and elected for it to be the Fire House in 2012 - 2013. Fundraising initiatives included:

  • $1.00 wear a hat or sunglasses day
  • Spirit bracelet
  • Tattoo sale
  • Candy cane sale
Students from pre-k to 5th grade participated in these events, and we are very excited that they raised such a big amount of money for the Fire House.
