History of Lapel

Lapel was platted in 1876 when the Anderson, Lebanon & St Louis (now known as the Central Indiana) railroad was extended to that point. It was named for the fact the Town layout resembled the Lapel of a jacket.

More information on the forming of the Town can be found in the digitized copy of the History of Madison County by John La Rue Forkner.
